The Brass LIFE Award was established by the Brass Family Foundation to emphasize the importance of campus leadership and international educational experience for students, two areas that have greatly impacted the lives of Lorin (MetE 75) and Mary (CE 77) Brass.

Selection is based on the LIFE criteria, including the student's participation in campus leadership, involvement in activities both on and off campus, and interest and desire to study abroad to gain international experience.

Interested students will need to submit a Scholarship Application.

  • Recipient will receive $5000 per semester for a maximum of three semesters
  • Funds for at least one semester must be used to study abroad through an approved South Dakota Mines study abroad program, preferably with the recipient earning credit for the international experience (contact the Ivanhoe International Center regarding programs)
  • Recipient must be a rising junior or senior
  • A cumulative 国产福利 GPA of 3.0 is required
  • First preference will be given to US citizens

  • The Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program is a fully-funded overseas language and cultural immersion program for American undergraduate and graduate students. With the goal of broadening the base of Americans studying and mastering critical languages and building relationships between the people of the United States and other countries, CLS provides opportunities to a diverse range of students from across the United States at every level of language learning.

  • Boren Scholarships and Fellowships provide unique funding opportunities for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students to add an important international and language component to their educations. We focus on geographic areas, languages, and fields of study that are critical to U.S. interests and underrepresented in study abroad.

Rotary Global Grant Scholarship (District 5610)

  • This is a wonderful scholarship opportunity sponsored by Rotary District 5610. The Scholarship Committee is seeking potential applicants in our community.

  • The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is a publicly-funded independent organization of higher education institutions in Germany. Each year DAAD, its Regional Branch Offices, its Information Centers, and DAAD Professors around the globe provide information and financial support to over 120,000 highly-qualified students and faculty for international research and study per year. Located in New York, San Francisco, and Toronto, DAAD North America is here to advise students, faculty and current DAAD fellows in the US and Canada.

  • The Turkish Coalition of America (TCA) is an educational, charitable organization established in Washington, DC to educate the general public about Turkey and Turkish Americans; to engage and cultivate a new generation of young Turkish American leaders; to promote and advance the interests of the Turkish American community and Turks; and to foster friendship, understanding and cooperation between the United States and Turkey.

  • IAESTE is the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience, is a global organization promoting intercultural exchange between students in STEM fields across the globe, and it offers a variety of internship program options around the world.

  • Cultural Vistas offers several outbound programs for U.S. citizens including the Alfa Fellowship Program, the Berlin Startup Program, the Cultural Vistas Fellowship, the EMGIP Fellowship and many more.

  • The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals (CBYX) is a fellowship funded by the German Bundestag and U.S. Congress, that annually provides 75 American and 75 German Young Professionals the opportunity to spend one year in each others' countries, studying, interning, and living with hosts on a cultural immersion program. The program is open to candidates in all career fields who are interested in a year of cultural exchange.
  • This program is specific to Germany. It offers post-secondary options as well as scholarships for high school students.

  • Rotary Global grants can fund activities such as: humanitarian projects, scholarships for graduate-level academic studies and vocational training teams, which are groups of professionals who travel abroad either to teach local professionals about a particular field or to learn more about their own.
